Q :In which condition should I use A2-B?
A : If you want to use the A2-B You have to develop an own PCB, because this version is designed especially for embedded solutions. In this case You must purchase the Evaluation Board FALCOM A2-EV. It will be the basis for Your own design.

Q : Can we modify GPS firmware?
A : Please note that the GPS-firmware is in this case closed solution. You can write additional software but You cannot change the GPS Firmware. If You wish to change the GPS software You can purchase the source code. For developing own software for the A2-3 platform we recommend to purchase A2-KIT186.

Q: I am trying to use the commands described in FALCOM A2 User Manual/Command List/V111698 page 14 (at+vgt=240 and at+vgr=240). My phone doesn't like values greater than 20. The phone is connected to a hands free unit A2-FSE02.
A: You have right, there is a mistake in the manual. The maximum of this parameter is 20.
Q :You said "For the GSM Part that You connect to the PC with the GIS Database You can use the FALCOM A2-1 as a ready solution,We recommend to purchase the FALCOM A2-1 together with A2-Start1." My question are : Must we buy A2-Start1?
A :This set contains among other thing the following important parts: Power Supply for A2-1, modem cable and GSM antenna. It will save You time and money to look for the separate components. That is why we recommend it. It is useful for every new comer. You can also purchase the power supply (PS-002) and the GSM antenna (ANT-001) separately if You wish.

Q :If we don't buy A2-Start1,what problem would we meet?
A :You have to organise all necessary external components.

Q : Could we buy A1-1 with A1-Start1 instead of A2-1 with A2-Start1?
A : A1-1 is obsolete and more expensive. That is why You have to use the A2-1

Q : Need I buy an additional devoloper kit for "A2GPS-1+ GPSMS1" ? what work should we to do when we want to send GPS messages through "A2GPS-1+ GPSMS1" to another A2-1?
A : If You use the car battery for supply and have a GSM antenna there than it makes no sense. Otherwise You could use the power supply for A2 PS-001 and a GSM antenna as mentioned above. (Note that PS-001 and PS-002 are not identical)
If we consider Your system as a server (GIS-Database PC) and client (local vehicle platform) the GPS firmware enables the client to call periodically the server and send him the GPS Data. The server can also call the client and get the corresponding GPS Data. This functionality is already implemented. For initial testing you can try to use the client architecture as a closed solution. In this case You do not need to purchase the A2-KIT186. Software changes for "tuning" of the system could be made on the server side. But if You wish to do software changes on the client side You need the A2-KIT186.

Q :Please give me the complete item-list of your products in our test program.
A : Here the summary:

Q: Is there any at command that will adjust the volume on the A2 module or do we have to amplify the the signal to the A2 with our own circuitary. We find the voice level from A2 to handset a bit low.
A: Yes there are two commands:
TX = microphone input = AT+VGT=XX
RX = loudspeaker output = AT+VGR=XX

XX can be as a maximum 20. Please note that this is descripted in the manual wrong. We will correct it with the next release of the manual.

Q: I need clarification of pin 26 (What is CASP)?
A: It shows you that the A2 is alive. Please us this pin to check the A2. When you see no CASP and the power is on then you can made a reset.
Q: I am assuming I can leave all unused outputs open.
A: Yes, that is right.
Q: Do I need to terminate the MIC (Differental input ) with a resistor if I'm
not using them
A: You do not need to do that.
Q: Are there any requirements for the unused inputs (i.e. do I need to tie them low or high)?
A: No, there is nothing to do.

Q: Do I need to separate our DC Digital VCC from the Baseband VCC I see that you tied them together (Ie pins 7 & 8).
A: No, because the FALCOM A2 is a fully type approved phone. Every mobile handset has only one input for VCC too.

Q: I HAVE FALCOM A2-1. I NEED TO COMMUNICATE WITH AN EMBEDDED MICRO CONTROLLER SYSTEM , WITHOUT MODIFYING ITS SOFTWARE.
I NEED THE FALCOM A2 TO AUTO ANSWER AND TO CONNECT "STRAIGHT THROUGH" SO THAT WHAT EVER THE CALLING SYSTEM SENDS, THE EMBEDDED MICROCONTROLLER WILL SEE.

THE FALCOM A2 AUTO ANSWERS AT THE MOMENT, BUT STAYS IN "COMMAND MODE" ie IT STILL RESPONDS TO THE "AT" COMMANDS.

A: The command is ATS0=1. You can read about this command in the manual of the A1-1. A lot of other commands are described there too.

Q: We would like to change from the A1 to the A2. Do you see any problems?
A: Please make a download of the "List to compare A1/A2" and the test software from our FTP-server. It will help a lot.

Q: I have looked through manual and can't these commands at all.
The FALCOM A1-1 has all of these listed together.
Standard commands like :
1. AT+IPR
2. AT+IFC, I get a reply by this is NOT documented!!!
3. AT&C
etc.
A: Excuse us for this mistake. The new manual is in process. Please us in the meantime the manual of the A1-1.

Q: I am currently looking at incorporating the FALCOM A2 into a unit. I have found data on the AMP connector for C1 and the RADIALL connector for C5, but I have not been able to find information on the 'CAB' connectors for C3 and C4. Could you please provide more detailed manufacturer information for these connectors (e.g. who are CAB?, do they have a Website?).
A: Yes they do, but please not that they have different product lines. The connectors are not listed on their webpage.

Q: I'm testing your new A2-1 GSM modem with our SMS software... and I just realized the lack of an AT command that instructs the modem to notify the software everytime a new SMS message arrives; this forces us to pool the modem to check if a new sms message arrived. Is that correct? What we need is a sort of RING message but for SMS messages.
A: Sorry, by a SMS you can not get any Ring. With the command AT+CNMI you can switch the GSM modem in a mode, that you will give you a "String" by every incoming SMS. Please note that the AT+CNMI is not described in the manual of the A2. Please use the manual of the A1.
